Brian Dunning at Skeptoid has a reminder for us:

It’s often been pointed out that astronomers, who spend more time looking at the sky than the average person, also report far fewer UFOs, because they actually know what they’re looking at.

It’s no wonder some people, e.g. UFO nuts, have such a distrust of expertise. Take it as a sign that your beliefs are due for reappraisal when they are not taken seriously by people who have gone to the trouble to learn about them.

And if you haven’t been doing it, any time is a good time to reappraise your beliefs.  That’s how science works.
